This is a 7-day baited Grizzly/ Black Bear hunt, Client will be allowed to harvest 1 Grizzly and 2 black bears. The hunt is tent based, but we will be eating home cooked meals during the hunt as we have a cook in camp for the entire duration of the hunt. Every evening, the client and their respective guide will hike to one of multiple registered bait sites to setup, and wait for bears to start feeding on the bait barrels. Rifle shots are under 100 yards typically at most of our bait sites and we have baits that are bow-hunter friendly as well given that the archery client can shoot their bow accurately at 40 yards. Client should be able to hike 2 to 3 miles daily and with up to a 30 pound pack.
Clients will fly into Kenai from their home airport, Where they will be picked up by a company representative or client will be expected to take a taxi to one of the local airports. The following morning, they will fly out of Kenai and begin the hunt. Since clients cannot hunt the day they fly they will spend the first day in camp making a game plan for the next day.
The following morning your guide will take you to one of our bait stations we have set up. Clients can expect to walk anywhere from three to several miles depending on the ability and location of bait stations. Upon arrival, there will already be a tree stand set up for both you and your guide. You may either camp in stake-out tents or hike back to base camp each night depending on capability, distance, and preference.
Once the bear is harvested, it is our top priority to preserve and prepare the bear for leaving the field, we turn and salt the hide in camp drying it out to keep it fresh and ready for tanning services to begin. Once the hunt is over, the client will be brought back into town, we recommend to all clients they use "Arctic Wolf Tannery" in Anchorage, they do over 90% of my customers' work, and my own personal hides as well. They make our customers a top priority and get my clients' work done much faster than the average wait times. They will tan the hide, clean the skull and custom crate, and ship the bear to your home or taxidermist of choice.
Here is the list of items you are definitely going to need:
We HIGHLY recommend a minimum of a 300 Win Mag for these Grizzly Bears. Bring at least 20-30 rounds of ammo. We will preach to you about the use of bonded bullets! Use only premium ammo such as Swift A-Frames, Federal Trophy Bonded Bear Claw, Nosler Partition, Hornady GMX & DGS, etc We also will take out archery hunters for Grizzly, We tell hunters that if they are comfortable and accurate shooting a bow at 60 yards a shot opportunity is possible but it is highly recommended the client also brings a rifle or is willing to burrow one from us to use if needed. (Note: We do not allow mechanical Broadheads in camp, and the bow must be at least 60# draw)
Handgun hunters need at least a 44 Magnum, and they must be using bonded bullets as well.
Muzzleloader Hunters need a rifle that is at least .50 Caliber in size
